Blog: My Mom is Doing Well
June 2nd, 2005 by Laurie BarakThank you to those of you who’ve emailed to ask about my mom. For those of you who don’t know or may have missed my post about breast cancer support auctions on eBay, my mom is currently undergoing chemotherapy for her second round with breast cancer.
She was first diagnosed in 2003. In April of 2005 she was diagnosed with breast cancer again.
She is undergoing chemo now. She has lost all of her hair and will also lose her eyelashes and eyebrows. She has been fitted with a wig that looks very much like what her hairstyle looked like before the chemo. Her spirits are good, though after a session of chemo she is very tired and has little energy.
Our friends and family have been wonderful again, as they were after her first surgery. She has several friends and neighbors who stop by routinely to check on her or take her out for an afternoon. The hardest thing for me is, I live on the West coast now and can’t get home to see her back East (I just started a new job so I have no time off). She sends pictures and we email each other several times a week. I hope to get home for a visit as soon as possible.
Thank you again to my dear readers who have emailed me to ask how she is doing. Thank you for wearing your pink ribbon pins and for supporting breast cancer research. Special thanks to our dear friend Karen T., who recently ran in a marathon for breast cancer research. You are truly an angel.
