Weird Wednesday: June 22, 2005

June 21st, 2005 by Laurie Barak

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it’s time once again for …

WEIRD WEDNESDAY

Where I look up some weird auctions on eBay and share them with y’all for fun.

Yes, I know it’s still Tuesday yet here on the West coast, but it’s Wednesday somewhere. Sorry I’m posting this a little early. I do have a life, people.

  • Buddha pencil toppers. “Tiny, wise and half-naked, these Buddha Pencil Toppers will make any writing experience more Zen,” writes the Seller. Starting at just $3.75 plus shipping, you can have some enlightenment while you’re balancing your checkbook or drawing lotus blossoms. I think they are cute.

When my parents were young they vacationed in Hawaii. My mom brought home a Buddha statue made of monkeypod wood. He sat on a little stand that hung on the wall. Whenever we felt we needed some extra luck, we’d rub Buddha’s belly. He always looked like he was laughing so I really enjoyed it when I was a kid.

  • The telephone voice changer disguises your voice by digitizing it. The degree of change can be adjusted as you are speaking by pressing the buttons located on the front of the unit.

Nifty little gadget for having some fun on Halloween or with a friend. Or you can call a bar and ask for “I.P. Daily” like Bart Simpson.

  • Freaky deaky gift for the collector of the unusual or any old hippie friends from college, it’s the vintage five-fingered retro vase. Now you can get a flashback without having to smoke something. Groovy, man!

  • Cutest watch ever: the haunted house watch with moving bat. This is so cute, I’d almost bid on it myself. It’s a watch with a haunted house on the face. The secondhand is a little black bat that “flies” around the haunted house. I looooooooove Halloween, this would be perfect. Adorable!

  • Another goofy vintage item, this one might be for that friend of yours who always likes to go to Red Lobster. It’s a pair of lobster claw salt and pepper shakers. They probably need a little cleaning up, but would make a great gift for someone who collects S & P shakers or the seafood lover in your life.

Well we’ve had Weird Wednesday Gets Wicked and weird animal stuff. What other types of themes would you like to see? Weird vintage items? Weird sporting equipment? Just send your suggestions to laurie.barak@gmail.com and I’ll see what kind of auctions I can find that are wEiRd! Sorry, that doesn’t include adult-oriented/mature items. Someone keeps asking me about that but no; I remain a family-friendly blogger.

    Quote of the day:

“To be great is to be misunderstood.”
    Ralph Waldo Emerson

That’s your Weird Wednesday report for June 22, 2005.
