Think you know everything about eBay? Well, maybe you haven’t heard about these 10 little items MSNBC dug up about the Internet selling megasite.
Here’s a brief overview:
1. eBay has over 135 million customers.
2. eBay conducts more transactions daily than the New York Stock Exchange.
3. If it was a retail store, eBay would be the largest employer in the world - even topping retail giant Wal-Mart.
4. Ten times a year eBay invites Buyers and Sellers to its San Jose, CA headquarters for a two-day conference to find out what users do and don’t like about eBay.
5. eBay’s Network Operating Center has some pretty amazing traffic tracking. Is your favorite show on Thursday night at 8 p.m.? Probably lots of other people are watching the same show, which tells eBay that folks are more interested in TV than buying or selling.
6. Though most of the time they ask Buyers and Sellers to resolve problems on their own, eBay really does follow up on fraudulent items, for example, fake art sales.
7. eBay’s recent Seller fee increase has caused over 7,000 Sellers to shut down their stores.
8. eBay won’t allow certain items to be sold on its site. For example, human body parts (for safety reasons).
9. eBay operates in 27 countries.
10. eBay gives other types of businesses room to grow, including drop-off stores and companies that sell packing items for shipping purposes.
