Weird Wednesday: July 27, 2005

July 27th, 2005 by Laurie Barak

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it’s time once again for …

WEIRD WEDNESDAY

Where I look up some weird auctions on eBay and share them with y’all for fun.

Gwen in Boca Raton wrote: “You did a WW about dogs, let’s see one about cats!”

OK Gwen, here we go!

  • eBay Seller womanofambition is very ambitious indeed, selling a video clip of her cat yawning. “Sale is final,” writes the Seller. Not sure what one would do with this. I have three cats that yawn for my entertainment all the time, so I think I’ll pass on this one.

Update: OK, I couldn’t resist. The bidding started at one cent so I bid two. I think so far I am the winning bidder. Hee hee.

Another update: I was the winning bidder! The Seller, womanofambition, was very nice. She said I didn’t need to give her the penny and sent me the video of her cat yawning. Big, fat, pretty kitty. My three cats and I all enjoyed it :-)

  • Allergic to cats? Live in an apartment that won’t allow pets? Here’s a great companion - Near Me, the cybernetic cat. Near Me is pronounced “nya-me”, which comes from the Japanese world “meow”. This high-tech kitty responds to sound, movement and touch. There’s a video clip of Near Me in action on the Seller’s site. It’s really amazing.

  • Here’s something I think is really cute. It’s a resin statue of a cat-Buddha. Many people find solitude in the Buddha’s teachings and calmness. This seems to be an ultimate in serenity.

  • Just as there is with fake dog poo, there is fake cat poo. “Just put on rug and run while you roar with laughter,” writes the Seller. Just when you think you saw everything!

  • Last but not least, here’s a cute childrens’ book called “My Cat’s Weird” by Lydia Monks. From the publisher: “My cat’s not like other cats. He doesn’t walk like other cats. He doesn’t wash like other cats. He doesn’t chase birds—he watches them!” And who ever heard of a cat building an airplane?! A colorful tale of pet eccentricity and high adventure from a bright star in the world of children’s books.

  • Yes, I know I promised a WW logo coming soon. Please bear with me, I’ve been swamped at work and haven’t had a chance to design one for the husband (computer guru) to create for me. Hopefully next week!

That’s your Weird Wednesday report for July 27, 2005.
