Old Glory is up for sale online. Bob Heft of Saginaw, Michigan is the designer of the 50-star US flag and his original design is now on eBay.
The 63-year-old retired professor says recent health problems coupled with his desire to set up education trust funds for several relatives is driving the sale. The opening bid is $250,000.00. Heft says if things work out, the flag will be bought and displayed in a Saginaw area museum.
Heft made the design as a high school history class project in 1958 in Lancaster, Ohio. It has been the official US flag since 1960. The e-Bay action ends on August 29th.
Here is the link to the eBay auction. It’s got a lot of neat pictures of Mr. Heft and the flag along with letters from all over commending him on his 50-star flag. Great site to visit for a piece of US history, even if you can’t afford to bid.

A note from your Blogger: Lancaster, Ohio is about 30 minutes south of where I grew up ![]()
