Weird Wednesday: August 31, 2005
August 31st, 2005 by Laurie Barak
Props to my husband, Dave, for the now-finished Weird Wednesday logo!
Weird Wednesday is when I look up some weird auctions on eBay and share them with y’all for fun.
Well, dear readers, it has been getting more and more difficult to find weird stuff to show you. A lot of what’s on eBay’s “weird” categories is either A., really ridiculous (i.e., “I pay my rent with misspelled eBay auctions”, mystery boxes, traveling hats-pants-other articles of clothing) or B., adult-oriented, which is a no-no because the PowerSellers Blog is a family-friendly blog.
So what did I find this week? Some goofy stuff about over-21 beverages. Take a look:
Super-retro! “The second hand looks like it’s stuck into a pimento-stuffed green olive and the pendulum is the delicate, swinging stem of the martini glass,” writes the Seller. This is really neat for a bar, kitchen or restaurant. Right now the bidding is still at under $20, which isn’t a bad price for this type of item. Oh, yes, batteries are included.

Rock around the martini clock.
Really cool for an evening outside on the patio. Made of acrylic, the glasses glow in blue and green. “A nice spin-off effect is that while the stems are brightest, the rims are secondarily tinged with intense light as well,” writes the Seller. They also come with a clear carrying case. These come with batteries as well. In case you want more than just two, the Seller has some other auctions so you can buy more. Great gift, great bar item, great for Halloween, New Year’s or other events. These are really nifty.

Here’s a picture of the light-up glass in someone’s hand.
Martini Glass Earrings
These almost remind me of something you’d see on Sex and the City. The earrings appear to be made of plastic and even have a little olive in the glass. Very cute for someone who enjoys a martini now and then, parties, Halloween, etc.

THIS IS COOL! Made of heavy plastic, the glass has a strobing blue LED that flashes on and off. When the glass is empty, the light stops blinking. The auction includes lithium batteries, which last a good long time. This would be super neat for a party, especially if it was outdoors in the evening. The Seller has 20 available, and please note the Seller is in Australia, so the pricing is a little different. They’re about $2.95 each US. The Seller does ship worldwide and it’s a little pricey, about $10, but I think they might combine shipping if you bid on more than one (please ask the Seller about shipping directly if you are bidding).
This is my favorite item on this week’s Weird Wednesday!
Here’s another auction for a shot glass, however, this one is decorated with a pewter sea horse surrounded by what looks like coral and kelp. There are two shot glasses in this set. These are lovely and a great item for the shot glass collector, bartender or sea horse collector.

Since it’s the Labor Day weekend and we’ve just looked at some items relating to adult beverages, please remember not to drink and drive this weekend. And wear your seat belt. Yes I am playing Mom!
That’s your Weird Wednesday report for August 31, 2005.
