News: eBay’s Whitman Among 50 Most Powerful Women
November 21st, 2005 by Laurie BarakCNN Money has ranked eBay CEO Meg Whitman as the most powerful woman in business for the second straight year.
“The empress of eBay still rules Silicon Valley,” Fortune said in announcing its annual list of the 50 most powerful women in business.
Carly Fiorina, head of Hewlett-Packard, got moved off the list after being ousted by HP last February. Then there’s craft maven Martha Stewart at number 21.
The rest of the top five include Anne Mulcahy, Chairman and CEO, Xerox (No. 2); Brenda Barnes, President and CEO, Sara Lee (No. 3); Oprah Winfrey, Chairman, Harpo (No. 4) and Andrea Jung, Chairman and CEO, Avon (No. 5).
Fortune ranked the candidates based on the size and importance of the company, their individual clout, their career trajectory and their cultural and social impact.
