Danger of Doing Business on Ebay

September 14th, 2006 by Marsha James

In England, Shahzad Ali Shah, 23 saw a car on Ebay that he just loved and wanted to buy. The seller agreed on the fee of £5,500 but Shah was in for a surprise when he went to pick up the car.

The seller demanded cash in person and said that he would only sell it if cash was offered and would definitely hold it for the seller. Shah went with two people to go pick up the car but was surprised to be held at gunpoint by the “seller”.

The man demanded the keys to the car they came in and the cash. He promised to “do something” if they were not handed over when he finished counting.

Unforunately for Shah he was also suckered into performing the transaction off of Ebay so they can’t and won’t be of much help to him. This will all have to take place in court.

Ebay said it was best if he used a check, money order or Paypal, but most experienced Ebayers would tell you that it is best to not use Paypal for large transactions. As much as Ebay would like you to believe that you are extremely protected when using Paypal, that is not the case. Just ask the thousands of people that have been burned and even lost their businesses when Paypal locked their accounts for no valid reasons.
