Changes to the PowerSeller Program

June 18th, 2007 by Lynn Little

The PowerSeller program is an exclusive club for eBay sellers who meet the criteria. They must average sales of $1000 for three months and maintain a 98% positive feedback score with at least 100 feedback votes. Membership is free, and invites are e-mailed directly to the seller from eBay. PowerSellers now only get a nice icon by their username but get prioritized customer support.

Some changes to the PowerSeller program will be implemented sometime this fall. The changes will reward eBay sellers who under the current requirements do not qualify for the program. Another change will offer unpaid item insurance for PowerSellers.

Seasonal sellers will now be eligible. If you sell a high volume but only during a certain time of the year, eBay wants to recognize your accomplishments. You will be able to proudly display the PowerSeller icon as you go into your season of great sales.

High volume sellers but low average selling prices. The PowerSeller program will soon recognize those sellers that sell a lot of small ticket items like trading cards but do a lot of transactions and provide a great buying experience.

eBay has expressed an interest in configuring PowerSeller status into their search algorithm so that auctions by PowerSellers will be stand out. This right now is just on eBay’s wish list and not something that will be taking shape anytime soon.
