Leaving Feedback

June 20th, 2007 by Lynn Little

With every transaction through eBay, there is a chance for both buyer and seller to leave feedback. Feedback can either be positive, negative, or neutral and contain a brief explanation. In addition to the feedback system, buyers can leave additional feedback on sellers in categories like shipping charges and item description. These detailed seller’s ratings do not count in the feedback score.

Some people will not buy from sellers with a low feedback score, and some sellers will block buyers with no score from bidding on their items. Building a reputation on eBay through feedback ratings takes time. There are those sellers who allow those new to eBay to bid on items, and there are people who will buy from sellers with low scores.

To improve your feedback score, be sure to leave feedback for each transaction. Some people will hold out for the other person to make the first comment, then respond in kind. eBay makes is really easy to leave feedback. From My eBay page, scroll down to either items sold or items bought. Under action, click the drop down menu and select ‘Leave Feedback.’ It’s paramount to leave feedback for every transaction. If you are a seller, leave feedback once you’ve shipped the item then drop an email to the buyer letting him know that you shipped item and left feedback. Once you receive an item, leave feedback and then send the seller a note. Sending a short email to someone reminding them to leave feedback is acceptable. Many people might forget so a gentle reminder can be appreciated.

Improving your eBay feedback score can help to increase sales as well as establish you as a master of eBay.
