Opening an eBay Store

July 12th, 2007 by Lynn Little

I’ve recently taking the plunge to open an eBay store. We have a lot of stuff that we are hoping to sell through eBay, so I’m hoping en eBay store will be an easy and affordable way to do it.

My store is the very basic one which is $15.95 per month. My store just has my auction listings so far since I haven’t had time to add any store items. I had been on the fence about opening a store for a few months but finally decided just to do it. Most people open a store because they have a high volume of sales each month. The store gives you a cleaner interface to keep track of sales. While my sales each month are not that much, the eBay store seemed the best fit for selling our large quantity of like items. Opening the store was done with just a few clicks, and it looks closing an eBay store is a simple process. At least with the interface I will be able to tell if it is worth it to keep the store.

It is recommended to still do regular auctions while operating an eBay store. It helps to drive traffic to your store since an eBay store icon is displayed by your user name. I will continue to list auction items but do store listings for comics and cards. My belief is that someone is more likely to buy a single comic they need instead of a huge lot of them. You can set up your options to combine shipping on items bought by the same person. Hopefully it will be a better deal than selling a lot of comics and allow buyers to find exactly what they need.

I plan to work on my eBay store this weekend. I must take pictures and write descriptions for all items just like a regular auction. It will be a lot of work but hopefully will pay out in the end.
