Use Others Postings to Make the Most of Your Auctions

February 11th, 2008 by Joyce Priddy

One of the best tips that I have for powersellers on EBay is to look at the items that others are selling.  For example, if you are selling an elephant collectible miniature, do a search on this title.  Look at all the listings and sort them from least expensive to most expensive.

Once you have found the listings, disregard any listings that do not have bids.  Remember, that any item is only worth what others are willing to pay for it.  If it has not bids then either it wasn’t a price that people were willing to pay or the auction itself did not draw the attention of bidders.

Carefully go through the auctions that have bids.  Look at how the sellers posted the item.  The types of pictures that they took is also helpful.  Look at the shipping and handling fees as well as the seller’s policies.

Learn from the other auctions how to best present your item to attract bidders.  Also, look at the the standard policies of other sellers.  You can use their success to teach you in ways that no book can.
