Thank you for all the emails from folks who wrote and told me they missed Weird Wednesday last week. Sorry about that, I was on a bit of a break due to the Thanksgiving holiday. But it’s back!

Since there is, or will be, an auction for an old jail on eBay, I decided to do this week’s Weird Wednesday about jail-related items. These are all in fun, as I am sure the Sellers think so as well. Enjoy!

Inmate of the Month T-Shirt
A bright orange t-shirt with INMATE OF THE MONTH printed on the front. Great gag gift for a friend or coworker. Available in various sizes, men’s and women’s sizes both available.

This makes me think of the character Carlos Solis from Desperate Housewives!

Old Jail House Keys
Now this auction makes me think of the Elvis movie Jailhouse Rock. A big key ring with 5 big brass keys on it. It would look neat hanging on the wall in a bar, tavern, etc.

Old West Prison Guard Badges

These are really neat. While they can be worn I’d recommend keeping them in a display case. The Seller also has some other auctions for wild west lawman badges.

Alcatraz Death Row Lock
Very unique and unusual lock from the Alcatraz prison in California. “This antique-looking padlock comes with 2 skeleton keys and has an engraved brass tag that reads Alcatraz Death Row,” writes the Seller.

Old West Prison Leg Irons
These are really cool, and that sounds weird to say. “These solid iron, ebony toned leg irons are new handmade period replicas like those of the 1800s, used during both the Civil War and Slave Trade eras,” writes the Seller. “Great for any 1800s reenactments…Civil War, Old West, slave trade, or just fascinating conversation pieces for your office or home.”

Yes, it’s back! Here’s your Weird Wednesday pre-Thanksgiving weirdness!

Here’s the first turkey hat I found listed. This one looks like a cartoon turkey and looks like it fits adults. I like the Seller’s eBay store statement that says “Hats so cool you’ll wish you had three heads!”

Happy Thanksgiving! “The cards are made from 80# high quality cardstock in small batches to ensure quality,” writes the Seller. An absolute must for the pug lover! The Seller also has some other pug items, including these cute pug Christmas cards showing a Santa hat-wearing pug with candy canes.

Once again it’s time for Weird Wednesday! Yes, it’s a little late. I forgot what day it was…oops!

For this WW, I’ve found eBay auctions with items about some famous folks who have birthdays today.

On November 2nd…

Former pop star Adam Ant (his real name is Stuart Goddard) turns 51. Here’s an auction for some Adam Ant memorabelia, including a poster and some pictures. Remember the “Goody Two Shoes” song? That’s Mr. Ant.

You may not remember his name, but he was the Russian boxer in Rocky IV. His name is Dolph Lundgren, and he’s not actually Russian but Swedish. He turns 46 today. Here’s an auction for a photograph of Lundgren as Ivan Drago from the Rocky IV movie fighting boxer Apollo Creed (actor Carl Weathers).

Comedian Dennis Miller turned 52 today. Here’s an auction for his book, I Rant, Therefore I Am. You may remember him from Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update. Or maybe from the Net Zero commercials on TV.

It’s hard to believe that the lovely Kate Capshaw is 52 today. Capshaw starred in such movies as Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, The Quick and the Dead, Black Rain, How to Make an American Quilt and The Love Letter. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! IT’S

I am SO excited, I LOVE Halloween!!! (As if you couldn’t tell!) A couple of people wrote and asked me why I like it so much. I just think it’s a fun day, like St. Patrick’s day, where you get together with people and have a good time. My black cat, Mackie, likes to sit in the window and watch the kids trick-or-treating. They think it’s really cool to see him. He’s my permanent Halloween decoration. And no, he’s not bad luck at all because he’s a black cat. He’s a big goofball!

I wanted to show you some fun Halloween stuff – family-friendly as always. Since I have lots of things to show you, I’ll just list the item and a photo. You can go to the auction for more details. Enjoy!

Need some spooky Halloween party recipes? You can find some for under $1 and some for even a penny at these auction listings. All of these auctions are from the same Seller but are really great for kids’ parties.

Boogers on a Stick – green Cheese Whiz on pretzel rods.

Brain Cell Salad – cottage cheese and Jell-o.

Chocolate Spiders – recipe uses chocolate chips, marshmallows and oatmeal.

Diaper Dump Porridge – soup broth with biscuit “dumps”.

Before we go…remember these Halloween safety tips:

If your children wear masks that cover their faces, make sure the mask has large enough eye holes that they can see out. Children can easily trip on curbs or tree roots if they cannot see properly.

If you cannot go trick-or-treating with your children yourself, make sure a responsible adult accompanies them.

Remember flashlights and glow sticks are a great way to light the way on a dark evening.

If a house is dark and has no lights on, do not try to go trick-or-treating there. It may mean the owners are not home or do not wish to participate in Halloween. Please be respectful of others’ property and beliefs.

If you own a black cat, please keep it in the house at Halloween. Superstitions may be fun to read but some of them can be harmful.

Please keep all of your animals indoors and secure at Halloween. They can be frightened by all the kids coming to your door. In some places, people use fireworks at Halloween and these can really scare animals. Many people I know keep their pets confined to a bedroom or separate part of the house until trick-or-treating is over. They might not like it much, but they’ll be safe.

No theme this week, just a bunch of random goofiness again!

Ghost-Faced Pickle Chips
The Seller writes this story: “I had gone grocery shopping just the other day and had to get my pregnancy midnight craving snack – pickles. As my nightly snack routine called me out of bed and to the fridge, to my surprise I see two little faces peering at me. I had to rub my eyes to make sure I was seeing straight and I was. The next morning I showed my little boy and my husband. My son said, “They look just like little ghosts” and I said “That’s what I thought, too!” My husband just laughed.”

I’m not sure what’s weirder…the pickles or the pregnant lady…hee hee, just kidding!

When I was a teenager I had a perfume bottle shaped like a unicorn. These are a bit more on the odd side, especially the snail. Cute for the perfume bottle collector.

This is a great novelty gift or a gift for a tie collector. I used to work with a guy who had over 100 crazy ties like this one. I think this one would definitely bring a smile to someone’s face.

If you know someone who’s still driving their ‘73 Nova and just can’t give up their 8-track, here’s a great gift – the dashboard disco ball. “As your car goes around turns the ball moves on its little springy base starting about a 30 second psychedelic light display,” writes the Seller. And who says disco is dead?!?

Kangaroo Paw Back Scratcher
Before we all go calling PETA, it really is OK the Australians hunt kangaroos – they are hunted under government regulations to control their numbers so the animals don’t starve. Probably not much different than hunting deer here in the US. So you’ve got a lovely trophy on your wall, here’s one that’ll do more than look good to your friends. The paw is a backscratcher attached to a wooden pole. Not something I’d want personally, but it might be a unique gift for the hunter/backscratcher collector.

Flying Pig Hat
Have you ever heard the term “When pigs fly”? Well now you can make it happen.”This new adult-sized hat has a velour cap and a stuffed head and legs,” writes the Seller. “Pulling on the chin strap makes the wings flap.” Cute idea for the pig lover in your family or a Halloween costume.

Canadian Mouse Pad
This is especially for my best friend, Kat, who’s from Canada. It’s a mouse pad that reads, “Not only am I perfect, I’m Canadian, too!” The Seller of this item has many other items with this statement on it, including mugs, hats, bags and t-shirts.

It’s really great, eh?

Armadillo Lamp
This is way ugly. It looks like someone found a deceased armadillo and took it to a taxidermist that’s also an electrician. I’m not really sure who would want this, or how the Seller acquired it, but they say you can find anything on eBay, you can find this, too.

“This is a clay jar with lid that I got in highschool as a gag gift,” writes the Seller. “I used to be really gassy and a friend bought this for me to “store” my farts for later. This would be a great gift for that gassy somone in your life.” You don’t say.

Vintage Enamel Neon Advertising Letter Sign – Red “O”
If you’re an Ohio State or Oklahoma fan, this may just be the crowning touch to your football themed basement haven. It’s a big red metal “O” that originally had neon on the front. “I have several other letters on eBay now so you can buy them and make up your own name,” writes the Seller. “They all measure about 13″x18″, and are made of metal with an enameled surface.” O-kay then.

This auction is for a Williams WR-27 turbine engine. The Seller indicates it could be used as a starter for your go-kart or motorcycle. Could also for an airplane, generator or if you really want to impress the neighbors, use it for your leaf blower or to melt the snow off your driveway.

Hello and welcome to Weird Wednesday! Where I find some weird auctions on eBay and share them with my Blog readers.

This week it’s weird plants…check these out!

Brain Cactus
A mutation of the common Gold Star cactus, the brain cactus (mammillaria elongata monstrosus) looks like…a brain! The mutation is actually caused by a virus that doesn’t hurt the plant. Cacti (plural for ‘cactus’) are easy to take care of and this particular cactus is great for children as it doesn’t have spikes or barbs on it (though it’s best not to touch the plant anyway). Brain cactus do not grow very large so it is great for a kitchen windowsill.

Ribbon Plant
The ribbon plant is a wonderful, rare plant from the Solomon Islands with long, completely flat stems,” writes the Seller. “It is sometimes called a succulent (the same family cacti are in), but it’s actually in the rhubarb and buckwheat family. What you see are the stems. The leaves themselves are small and they don’t appear too often. The flattened stems are smooth and durable. They branch out and weave their way up eerily, forming a bushy mass of ribbons over 10 feet tall if left unpruned. You can grow it in a pot indoors or out, pruning it to any height that’s convenient. Makes an artsy and unique houseplant!”

Bat Plant
“The bat plant or devil flower, Tacca chantrieri, is native to Southeast Asia,” writes the Seller. “The purple-black flower looks somewhat like a flying bat, a sinister face or a mean cat with lots of whiskers. Bat plant is bat-like in color, shape and quite a complex plant with interesting side bracts of dark shiny green and white leaves. ”

This auction is for seeds to grow your own bat plant. Freaky!

Fuzzy Retro Flowers
I have no idea where the Seller of this auction found these crazy things. They do look like they came from a Dr. Seuss book. Funny gift for someone who likes retro or 70s items. Just plain weird if you ask me!

It gets more and more difficult to find things each week. I am finding there are many items on eBay’s “Everything Else” categories, but not very many I can share with you — this is a family-friendly blog

I didn’t have a theme this week so here are a few goodies I dug up for you.

What an adorable gift for a brial shower or wedding. The male duck is decked out in a black tuxedo including a top hat, and the female duck has on a cute strapless wedding dress, string of pearls and veil. Super cute!
